Abstract
This study aims to investigate the relationships among emotional regulation, social media addiction, and the quality of intimate relationships among married couples. The objectives include examining the direct impact of emotional regulation on intimate relationships, exploring social media addiction as a mediating factor, and analyzing differences in these relationships based on marital status, age, and gender. Hypotheses posit both positive and negative correlations among these variables, highlighting the complex interplay between emotional regulation and social media addiction in intimate relationships. Data was collected via Google Forms from 298 participants using standardized scales, revealing high reliability (Cronbach's alpha: Emotional Regulation Scale = .906, Relationship Assessment Scale = .870, Bergan Social Media Addiction Scale = .909). Descriptive, bivariate correlation and mediation analyses were conducted using SPSS. Findings indicate a significant positive relationship between emotional regulation and intimate relationships and a negative relationship with social media addiction. Mediation analysis shows social media addiction partially mediates the relationship between emotional regulation and relationship satisfaction. Significant differences were observed across age and gender groups, with males showing higher social media addiction and relationship quality scores. These insights underscore the importance of emotional regulation in enhancing relationship quality and managing social media use.
